I'm running VPC 7 and was going to run an old-ish game (ca. 1994) and it runs fine actually, but it requires to be run in DOS mode.
The mouse doesn't work though. Anyone know how to make the mouse work in DOS mode?

Look in the Manual & Tools folder on the installer CD. There are DOS additions there that you should install.

I think you need a mouse driver for mouse support to work in DOS.... it's been awhile, but I distinctly remember adding lines including things like "MOUSE.SYS" or "MOUSE.COM" back in my DOS days.
Try installing the VPC additions and see if that helps.

Thanks, I did install the extras but that didn't work and I installed the msmouse.exe which I downloaded from Microsoft. Neither worked :/
This must be the reason why I bought a Mac eh
I'll keep on tinkering when I can be bothered to face Windows setups and horror like that again.
Quick question:
Does VPC not emulate Soundblaster or AdLib soundcards? The sound works fine when in Windows mode but not in DOS mode.

VPC emulates a soundblaster 16 or something very close to that, according to the device manager.
Considering that you're trying to get sound and mouse working, I will theorize that you want to play games. Just stop now. VPC is a crappy game solution in my experience. Older DOS games that don't require 3d hardware might work, but it's not worth the effort.

Not the write commands. The file used to be called MOUSE.EXE typically installed in the C:/MOUSE directory. You need a CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT file in the root directory C:/ to load the driver. They should be easy to find on the Internets.

Yeah I know
It is an old non 3D DOS game I'm trying to play. The game itself runs fine but I can't get the sound to work properly (it complains of low memory and I have no idea how to increase the RAM for the game), I have yet to get the mouse to work and well other than that it seems to work.
I guess I'll have to ask a long time PC using friend of mine how to install a mouse driver in DOS. I remember my friends needed to do that way back when.

yeah, my DOS troubleshooting skills are kinda... atrophied.
I could have sworn I've seen both a .com and .sys for mouse support though. But then... I've seen a lot of wacky stuff in DOS.

Connectix used to have a KB article that detailed how you could free up enough of that 640kb of RAM in DOS for this sort of thing. Anyone with serious DOS-fu and memory of old DOS games should be able to help with that as well.
