I decided to create my own customized AppleWorks spellchecker with many many medical terms. Right as I got to the M's, the "learn" button decided to stop working and give me that error beep (yes, I was doing them all manually instead of just importing a whole document full of the words). Anyway, I think I was somewhere in the neighborhood of 2,500 new words - PLUS whatever was already in my dictionary from years of use (prolly about 1,000).
So, what now? Why is there a limit on the number of words I can put in my spellchecker! Is there any way around this (WITHOUT creating 10 different dictionaries). I need everything in 1 dictionary. Any ideas?

Check your user dictionary in case there are any words you can delete.
Keep your fingers crossed for a new version. The rumours sites have kept this one alive for ages. It might actually happen one day.

I decided about 2 years ago to do just that. I really did. However, the very first time I launched it and started typing, it crashed. I was reminded all over again why I'm a Mac user. I have never even considered using Word again. I have it. Once in a while I'll use it to read other people's documents (when I'm too lazy to use MacLink). I do like the fact that it has the Avery Label templets and will use it for that when needed. However, it doesn't even have a place in my dock.

Does that mean that there IS in fact a limit on the number of words spellcheck can learn?
(and that it's rather modest?) Does anyone know what the limit is?

2,500 NEW words isn't modest?

Now, I just tried to import a text file with the cutom words into a new AW dictionary. The document has approximately 28,000 words, but I suspect there are only 10,000 or so that are unique. Here's the deal... No matter how I go about it, the most words a custom AW User Dictionary seems to be able to handle is between 2,909 and 2,923.
BUT I'M SUPPOSED TO BE A POWER USER!!! ( . . . 1/2 jokingly)
Seriously, SOMEONE has to have a way around this. Is there anyway to hack/increase the word or character limit myself???
I understand that at some point there was prolly a legitimate reason to limit the size of the dictionary to <3,000 words b/c of the time it would take to spellcheck a document against such a large dictionary. But my new 1.5 AlBook w/ Panther should be able to handle much more than this. Does anyone know when this limit was established? I suspect that it was prolly left over from the old ClarisWorks days in light of the fact that there have only been modest improvements in AW since then.
I love APPLEWORKS. C'mon Apple, hook us up!!!
