hey

i'm on a pretty new Ibook w/ safari 1.2, and was wondering about when 1.3 was released, if an update for safari from 1.2 to 1.3 would be included in the "software updates" i've scheduled OR if i'll have to search it out and download it seperately?

also... when will the release of 1.3 go down (calender-wise)?

thanks!

Safari 1.3 will not be released. The next major version of Safari will be bundled with Tiger.

Safari is up to 1.2.3, i believe, and there is talk of a newer version in 10.3.6, which is in testing internally (externally?) at apple.

The original 1.3 will probably never be released, as they've moved on and included many of the fixes in other updates.

To answer your other question, your software update will definitely find any updates apple releases. Don't worry about looking for them, they will come to you.

Agreed, just make sure SU isn't set to check Monthly (set it to Daily or Weekly) or you could be waiting a while for it.
To do this go to System Preferences>Software Update.

ok, so from how i read this any new version of Safari will be "released" along with future software releases from apple.

but, that said, the version of Safari that shipped with my ibook will be updated automatically through those software updates and will then be the later, updated, version.

is that right?

Apple will update your Safari for Panther with bug fixes and security updates through the Software Update mechanism.

But a major new version of Safari with cool new features and stuff you will only get with the pay for Tiger OS.

Isn't Safari in Tiger going to be 2.0?

That question does not sound like software.
Ha.

Safari 1.3 DP for Panther is (146)
Safari 2.0 DP for Tiger DP is (146) as well.
They are both using the same rendering engine (146).
It might be safe to say that once Tiger comes out then 1.3 will be released for Panther w/ the same rendering engine but w/o RSS and similar features that 2.0 will have.

But they must be past 146 internally.
