Does Adium do file transfers like iChat?

I used to use Adium back in the day and I love the tabs but I need to ability to drag and drop a file into a chat window and send it. Does it do this?

They're not fully implemented yet. There are still some issues with firewalls and there's little GUI feedback (there's a status message in the message window when a transfer starts and finishes, but that's it). Progress is only available though the OS X console.

You can drag and drop files into the message window to send.

Like I said - it works, but is kinda spotty with firewalls.

File transfer in the current barebones state should work with any service that supports file transfer, regardless of the client in use (must support file transfer of course).

Is there a way to get bookmarks from a different browser in there? And also set a different browser for the chat window?

One of the things I really like about iChat (and why I continue to use it for .Mac and AIM) is its integration with Mail... the fact that you can see in Mail.app which users are online. That way if you're about to send someone an email, you can see if they're online, and send them a quick chat instead of it's just a quick question.

No 3rd party service can do that... I'm unsure whether it's something that's accessible through a public API. If it was, I could ditch iChat and have a unified message window, but for no, no.

Good release though... replaced Proteus (which seems to have died since Justin left) as my default "non iChat" client.

I think it was about a year ago now when I first found an Adium 2 daily build... I was looking at screenshots of my Mac OS X desktop from 3 years ago and I saw a little Adium icon in the dock (little duck in the bottom left):

Adium rocks, guys. Seriously.

It's not a public API. This has been mentioned in the Adium forums before and I'm pretty sure the devs have said it will not be implemented. Not unless Apple will release the APIs for it.

LOOK IT'S THE NEW ADIUMX THREAD AT THE TOP OF THE LIST.
LET'S BE COOL AND POST HERE INSTEAD OF THE BICKERING BETA THREAD.

sorry...let's get this one going tho.

Here's a question, once in awhile I get a Adium window popping up asking for my hotmail password, but I never give it and everything remains working normally, so what is it's purpose?

Er most people post in the other thread because it was there first. This one is kinda redundant.

The changes don't seem to affect me much. I guess I'll wait on the update. Nice to see it out in non-beta-prerelease form

So current message styles no longer work with the new version? How do I update mine, or where would I get info on it (searched the forums)?

yeah most people did post there because it was there first, but two things:
1. The beta is over for 0.7
2. That thread was becoming annoying when you'd go in thinking there was insight about the newest release to be found, and all you got was people bitching at eachother.

So hopefully, new thread, new attitude.

Also, MSN related - I'm getting generic user pics for the odd user when they're not actually using that pic...by generic I mean those pics which come with MSN, not the green guy thing. Sent feedback.

Decided to give it a shot. I usually use Proteus for MSN and Yahoo, and iChat for AIM. Adium has come a long way and it looks very nice from the last time I used it. I quit iChat and am now going Adium fill steam ahead. I only care about iChat really for audio and video, and that's so rare that I can just open iChat with my secondary account when I want to do that. I really like the different skins that the buddy list can use. Looks sharp.

looks fantastic!

but the file transfer leaves much to be desired.. if only it has progress indicator of some sorts. also doesn't work well with firewalls (which incidentally it seems everyone i know has some form of firewall nowadays).

keep up the good work tho.

I know it's not ideal but if you open the OS X console during file transfers it'll give you the progress.

xeo you can connect with the same account multiple times now. So if you need to fire up AV chat there is no need to use another screen name.

Oh that's right. AIM just gives you a message saying it's "logged in at a different location." Do messages go to both clients then?

Do what? Open the console? Open Console.app.

How do I rename my groups? All my MSN contacts are thrown into this "Other Contacts" group.

I moved from the "official clients" which really sucked to Fire, then to a previous build of AdiumX and back to Fire... and with 0.7, it's really improved a lot.

Only thing I would want is to create group chats in MSN, now that 0.7 supports MSN user icons.

I've had it give me a hard time connecting to ICQ lately.

I had it say I was online, but no one on my list could see me either.

Weird.

Does anyone know if/how intergration with font and colour settings for MSN works? I mean, can I set a font and have that shown on the person I'm talking to's messenger? If so, does colour and size work too?

I can't seem to get it to work, which means I have to use aMSN as it does the fonts properly.
