I'm just starting out on my first iMovie and rather than have hard cuts in between clips I wanted to lessen the chopiness by having "fast" dissolves. I see that for some reason the clips the dissolve is linking must be 11 seconds.

Is there anyway around this limitation or is there another plug-in that will let me use dissolves a little more freely?

11 seconds? That's certainly not how it's supposed to work.

There is a slider on the transitions pane when you select the Cross Dissolve transition that will allow you to set the transition time from 1/3 of a second to 4 seconds. It can get a little confusing at times because when iMovie says "0:10" it means "0 seconds and 10 frames" instead of "0 minutes and 10 seconds". One frame is about 1/30 of a second.

I found a site that shows how to use transitions in iMovie: http://it.mala.bc.ca/students/Labs/v...o_Transitions/ It's for an older version, but the process is essentially the same.
