Comical is... comical. Really slow, hangs trying to open cbr (cbz works OK), and crashes just looking at the about box.

I'm developing a comic book viewer that doesn't suck. Email me if you'd like to try it (private beta.)

Comical is... asides from your beta... the only app that can display .cbr and .cbz on the Macintosh. I thought it was adequate, while simple.

I'm looking forward to seeing a better app, so the best of luck to you.

The .cbr files are essentialy .rar files, so you can unpack them by using UnrarX for instance. .cbz are .zip files. You get the picture.

Well, I left it open for 30 minutes and all I got was the rainbow ball of death. I might try the rar program, but what will it unstuff to?
Thanks

I would imagine that opening the rar file using openup or through the terminal (Stuffit always did strange things to my rar files..) you'd get a folder with a bunch of pictures.

For the .cbr extension, CB denotes 'Comic Book' and the r stands for rar. Comic Book Rar.

.cbz would be the same thing but using zip compression. So, a .cbr really is just a .rar, and a .cbz is just a .zip. Anyway, Twill laid it out there but I couldn't tell if you were picking up what he was saying.

The only way to find out is to try it. It's kind of sad that whatever app you use beach-balled you. Unless the rar was corrupted and the app choked, it should be relatively simple to decompress the archive and put the images in a window .

You could definitely do it w/ Cocoa yourself. Otherwise you'll just have to get that comic book viewer beta...

Actually, FFView is another one that will view .cbr/.cbz directly. It has its own set of problems, of course.

I've used Stuffit to open .cbr files in the past. It just creates a folder of the JPEG files. Not as nice as some of the viewers on windows, but it doesn the job.
