while posting on this board, I get very high CPU usage on my Mac, and it seems to slow down the computer while I type and all. I did a terminal "top" command and it's all safari..

Animated gifs (like those on the post message page), and overuse of flash (or any plugin) and javascript (like igsuck.com) kill Safari. Safari 1.3 fixes a lot of the poor javascript performance, but is not yet available. You can use Pithhelmet in the meantime to make animated images display only once (or not at all), and turn off plugins for all sites except those you regularly go to that need it. Or use another browser that can do this.
I'm surprised you notice the slowdown with your hardware.

Has anyone recently had problems using Safari on the forums? I'm suddenly getting 90% or higher CPU usage, and periodic (albeit temporary) hangs when loading forum pages, or switching from tab to tab. Sometimes the hangs and the CPU usage don't coincide either. I've tried turning off Javascript and PithHelmet, and made sure AutoFill forms are turned off, and nothing has helped. I haven't added anything to my computer, or changed any configurations either, so I am at a loss for this downturn in performance.
I'm on a 1.25 Ghz Powerbook 17", with 1 GB of RAM. Any ideas or suggestions appreciated.

Jan. 5, 2005 MacWorld has article that describes a fix for Safari. It's listed here: http://www.macworld.com/weblogs/edit...ltip/index.php
Basically, the problem seems to be related to Safari Preferences for AutoFill. I went into the "Other Forms" and deleted all the items listed there and IT FIXED THE PROBLEM !!!
The stalling and lag in Safari are gone! This is an item that has gotten a LOT of mention if different threads on this forum.
I'm a happy-camper again with Safari!
