before I install ghostscript I was wondering if the gimp-print and cups drivers have already installed a version on Panther.
Anyone know? I can't find a manpage for it, but there do seem to be references to it.
Also I was wondering what the differences between various build are (espghostscript, gnughostscript, ghostscript, etc...)
Thanks!

Hi, I informed you falsely that ghostscript was already installed on OSX in your other post. Sorry about that. The best place to get ghostscript is either via fink or from the opendarwin ports. Here is the GNUghostscript link: http://darwinports.opendarwin.org/da...cript/Portfile
The differences between the GNU and AFPL versions are mainly licencing issues. The AFPL version doesn't check for dependencies, as far as I could tell, and it isn't an opensource licence. If that doesn't bother you, go ahead and use the AFPL version. It's use is free, just like the GNU one. Just remember to get the dependency libraries. Here's the link to the opendarwin AFPL version: http://darwinports.opendarwin.org/da...cript/Portfile

Thanks Theolein,
I had ESP Ghostscript installed at one time. I think I'll give it try again. I had trouble getting the pssplit and pspage to producr output ... I think GS will provide more tools for me to use as well as shellscripts to help me.
Thanks Again.

(For future searches on Ghostscript)
The Preview app also displays (converts to pdf) .ps files, btw - you probably knew that already.

On the page where I gave you the URL to download the pssplit source, there is a ghostscript commandline example on extracting single pages from a postscript document.
Edit: If it works you can batch it with a simple bash shell script to do page 1 to how many pages your douments have.

I gave that a shot and ended up with 4 files for a 3 page ps file. None of the files were readable in Preview or other ps viewers.
I'll have to take a closer look and see whats getting screwed up.

But were they readable in ghostscript? If they are, then they should print. It is also possible that Quark oupputted a broken ps file, which would need some kind of preflight utility to fix. There's a whole industry that caters just to that issue.
