Hi everyone,

This is a hypothetical question at the moment but it may become a reality soon...

Right now, I have a PowerMac G5 and sync my iPod with the single iTunes library on my home machine. Now, what if I buy a Powerbook and I want to plug my iPod into that machine, and have all the same songs on that machine in iTunes. More importantly, if I rip a CD in iTunes on the Powerbook, plug in the iPod, and it updates; will I be able to plug the iPod into my G5 and have those songs placed into the G5 library?

In a nutshell, can I sync two iTunes libraries on two separate macs with ONE iPod. If I add songs on one computer, I want the songs to be added on the other computer, through my iPod.

Can it be done?

not without 3rd party software.

You can tell the iPod not to update automatically, and then I think you could manually add songs from both computers, (sync with the G5, add songs from PB). However, there's no way to get songs added to your iPod from the PB to the G5 - at least not without 3rd party software.

The reason Apple's done this is because otherwise it'd be far to easy for people to give/steal thousands of dollars worth of music, just by plugging in an iPod.

You might want to look into ways to have your PB and G5 automatically sync their music folders instead.

Yeah, that's what I thought. It would be too easy for friends with iPods to just swap quick and double their music collection. However, with the increase in multi-computer homes and people with two computers themselves, there should be a way to authenticate yourself or something like that to sync two machines. Just my opinion.

Seeing as I only have one computer myself right now, what is the best way to sync two music folders on different machines? I have never had a need to sync anything, really.
