This was a question posed to me at work. They would like email messages moved to folders on the computer, specifically job folders to which the emails refer to. My thought is that Mail can't actually do this since emails can't even be dragged out of the program, but is there another program or way to do this.

Thanks

you could always save the email as a .pdf to the particular folder...

I could easily see creating a small AppleScript that could go into a folder/mailbox on Mail.app and create a folder of raw email files in a user-specified folder. This could be used when you are archiving a project.

I am not aware of an email application that will allow people to manage email repositories outside of the designated folder.

On an interesting note, it is conceivable that a hybrid IMAP/CVS system could be created so that people could store all of the project related files and email in the same shared mailbox on a IMAP server... I am going to have to think on that some.

Thank you for your replies.

I have found this little app: http://www.e-nvention.com/ mrpostman

It converts the email into simple text and also saves attachments.

The plan is to have folks within the office forward the email with the 5 digit job number replaced in the subject. Mrpostman will then make a folder for that email using the subject as the name for the folder (one of the several options available).

Right now I guess I will have the receptionist manually drop these in the respective job folders, which also contain the 5 digit number. Ideally this would be done automatically, and I am sure there must be a way to do this via applescript, but, I don't know applescript

Applescript is one of those things that I really want to learn, but then I start thinking of all the other things that must be done in my life, so it goes.

Thank you again for your time.
