I've read a few threads in here about making backups of DVD movies. Is there any completely freeware way to do this? From what I've seen thus far, OSEx is free for ripping. Then I may need to remove titles, menus, and such, but this is with DVD2One which is not free. Are there any free alternatives to this? Also, can any DVD burning program write the DVD after it's ready?

Thanks for any help and advice.

DVDBackup (free) and as you mentioned DVD2oneX which is cheap for what it does.

Both can be found on versiontracker.com.

If you can find an aternative to DVD2one for free that works as well let us all know.

Copying DVDs without owning them is illegal, yes. I'm looking to actually back up my DVDs. The initial question was not about whether what I was doing was legal or not. If I was copying DVDs illegally, I would have pirated DVD2One already. I'm trying to find a free way backup DVD movies on my Mac if possible. My PC has a great program http://www.dvdshrink.org/. I was just hoping there was one for Mac as well.

Depends how it's ripped, I guess. DVD2oneX, a great program, produces DVD-ready .vob files that simply have to be burned onto a DVD-ROM. Toast Titanium is perfect for this, but I think iDVD and other programs do it too.

Everyone has his own system, I prefer Mac the Ripper for ripping, DVD2oneX for shrinking, and Toast for burning. If you have an external Firewire hard disk, you can just store the ripped DVD data and not bother burning the the DVD unless the original gets lost or damaged.
