I'm trying to listen to today's (11/9) broadcast of NPR's "talk of the Nation," and am not able to, for some reason.
http://www.npr.org/rundowns/rundown....04&prgId=5
I have OS X (latest update) and have both the Real Player and Windows Media Player, but when I click on either of them, nothing happens.
Both players have worked in the past, though I don't use them much. Any ideas what the problem might be? I'm still a little bit of a Mac newbie (almost one year). Thanks in advance!

If you're using Safari, check "General" in Safari's preferences. Make sure that "Open 'safe' files after downloading" is checked.

Thanks. Same thing is happening in both Safari and Firefox. In Safari, "open safe files after downloading" is checked.
Still working on it ...

K, then try repairing the permissions using Disk Utility in the Utilities folder. If that doesn't fix it, try deleting the Real Player app and the Real Player plugins in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins and then reinstalling Real Player.
If that doesn't work, you should try repair the system disk using a disk repair utility like Disk Warrior. If you don't have a utility, then boot from the OS X install CD and run Disk Utility from there.

Thanks, Spliff!
I repaired permissions, and now I'm able to listen the broadcast, in Firefox anyway. However, Firefox tried to play the file using QuickTime. I manually changed it to Real Player, using cmd-I.
So, it works, but is there an easier way, or is this the way it's supposed to work?
Thanks again!

When used "Get Info" (cmd-i) on the RealPlayer file, did you select "Change All" when you changed it from Quicktime to RealPlayer?
Check the "File Types" setting in Firefox's preferences under Downloads. See if there is anything related to RealPlayer that you can change.
If there isn't, try the following:
Open up System Preferences > Quicktime > Plugin > MIME Settings and click "Use Defaults."
Then launch RealPlayer. Open Preferences > Media Types and click "Save Media Types."

If Safari downloads a file but doesn't hand it off to the helper application, you can double-click the file's icon in Safari's download window.
For playing audio or video with RealPlayer, try using RealPlayer's built-in browser windows for clicking the audio or video links.
