Hi,

I'm looking for a way to connect to my Mac at home from work. My home Mac is connected to a cable modem and has a dynamic IP. I usually never shut down my Mac, I just put it to sleep when I leave. So I don't think my IP addy will change often...

What I want to do is to be able to mount the volumes on my Mac at home on my Mac's desktop at work. What do I need to configure, install or know to be able to do that? Is it possible at all? Will my home Mac wake up from sleep when I try to access it remotely?

Thanks!!!

no, your mac won't wake.

You can turn on the personal file sharing in the sharing tab in the system prefs.

Mind you that if the IP changes, you won't be able to connect.

You need to test it (preferably with someone in the office and you in the home or vice-versa) and test it thoroughly...

What you can do is if you are running on a cable modem and you have a router you need to open up a port for the router. The other thing I would do is to assign your Mac a static IP from your router. after that you can use any of the programs that will allow you to access your Mac. You can use timbuktu, VNC, ARD (apple remote desktop), and the Microsoft one as well. I use VNC. It's a little slow but not too bad.
