OmniWeb 5 has got some tempting features. Now in version 5.0.1 I have the feeling that it runs fast enough on my G3 engine. But I miss one important feature, or did I just oversee it?
Where is the “save as” button that saves an entire web page in a single file and saves the URL, so I can visit that page again easily?
Thanks for your help!

The closest OmniWeb has to this is to print the page as a PDF. At the moment none of the MacOS X browsers have web archive abilities, and it is a feature that has been reported on-and-off for Safari 2.0... in some builds it is there, in some it is gone.

Both Internet Explorer and iCab can save a flat file web archive. The Mozillas can save HTML complete with images in a separate folder.

You can save as PDF in OmniWeb if you hold down the ⌥ key before opening the File menu. The advantage over printing to PDF is that you don't get the page breaks.

If you just want a page that you can read but not click the links, then saving as a PDF is fine. However, if you want to save the actual site, OW doesn't save as an archive but it can save the actual files (which you can then view in any browser). Show the page info (View>Show Page Info... or command-I), highlight the files and Save As...

If you want to save pages linked from the current one, File>Save Linked...

FWIW, OmniWeb saves the links to any pages in the Comment section of the file in the Finder (command-I on the file and the URL is in the Comment pane):

This is also true for any images you drag and drop or save out of the browser.

I have to correct my recent statement: It is OmniWeb 5.1 beta 3 that now seems snappy enough to be useable, not OmniWeb 5.0.1.

I agree that 5.1 beta 3 is snappy enough to be useable. But do you notice massive memory usage issues with yours? I was in back and forth communication with someone from the OmniGroup for a couple of weeks about the issue and he seemed to suggest that my problem wasn't something he could reproduce on his end.

Just curious...

Well not here, I've just checked again. Even with some tabs open it uses not more mem than to be expected. Just a lot of threads -- 31. It is still much slower than Camino, but I guess on a fast G4 it's all right.

I am an OmniWeb user and was unaware of that
very useful feature - so cheers for the heads up JKT ;)

Apart from the all too frequent crashing it's a joy to use.

Simple Empire...
