I'm curious whether or not there are free online virus/trojan scanners for macs running os x? I know that there are very few (probably none) viruses/trojans for os x but I just recently got a trojan on my pc and am curious as to if my mac may have got one too. Maybe a demo version of antivirus software would work also, just want to make sure my mac is clean at this point in time given my recent pc troubles. I also sometimes download pc files onto my mac and then transfer them onto my pc, and once about a week ago i accidentally clicked on a virus email on my mac (I think it was the mydoom virus though so I am pretty sure I was immune to the virus since I was on a mac.

You are right, there are no viruses on the Mac. There is no need to worry about PC viruses opened on your Mac (in e-mails, for example) because they will physically not work on your Mac. I am positive your machine does not have a virus.

Trojans, however, are a different matter altogether. It would be hard to explain why you're relatively safe against trojans, but here's the short version: Make sure you know what you're downloading and what it does. If a program you download asks for your password in order to perform administrative tasks, make sure it's something that really needs an administrator for (installing system files usually).

It is generally a good rule is to stick to sites like versiontracker.com or [url=http://www.macupdate.com/[/url] for downloading shareware applications, and search a forum like MacNN before you install or run something that seems fishy.

There is a build of ClamAV on versiontracker... of course there are no viruses to put into the database, but it does scna for windows viruses. On the trojan side, there has yet to be one found in the wild on MacOS X... but it is very possible.
