i have a tv hooked up to my 12" pb via adapter... the laptop is display 1 and the TV is display 2

to watch a movie in VLC full screen on the tv, i need to manually change the video device every single time... is there a way to set 2 to be the default?

You could open the "Displays" pref pane and drag the menubar to the TV display.
You know it makes sense. ☼ ☼ ☼ Growl.

I have the same problem and dragging the menu bar to the other display is not an accepted solution...
