I would like to make a relational database or something similar for information required for school work. Specifically I would like to make a interactive med card db, but I would like some input on what method would be the easiest and most efficent way of doing so.
I'm looking for the following requirements.
  • Easy input and updates of data
  • Able to include media, pictures, movies, sound files if needed, etc..
  • Easy to search including by name, type, details, etc.. (would be nice to have something come up after typing a few characters, like quicksliver)
  • Cheap or no cost solution

I've thought of several ways of doing something like this, from a simple website with links and a built in search engine, to a filemaker db, or sql, maybe even starting from the ground up and making an objective-c cocoa application. (something I don't have the time nor skill or resources to mess around with at current time.)

So what have you folks made or run? Are there any Freeware or Shareware applications that can help? What would you recommend?

FileMaker Pro 7.x meets all of your requirements except the cheap/free part. Of course, cheap is relative. ;-)
Good Luck!
