Are bookmark favicons available in Firefox 1.0 for Mac OS X? On my Windoze machine they are "on" by default and I find that to be advantageous for selecting sites in the bookmark menu. If they are available in menus in Firefox for OS X, how do I turn them on?

I'm sure it's either a feature turned on/off in that customizing window or it's theme by theme... I know that the favicon's are on my Windows Box at work but dissapeared when I changed to a different theme... so it's probably theme based.

Hmmm. This is one of those things that I kinda noticed but didn't pay lots of attention to until now.
When I do about:config and search for favicons, I see only one entry, browser.chrome.favicons and it is set to 'true' by default. Just as it is in Windows. Maybe it IS a choice (or a defect) in the OS X default chrome.
I like the bookmark favicons in Windows. I'd love to turn them on here, too.

Are you speaking of favicons in the address bar or also in bookmark menus? In every version of Firefox that I've downloaded, I've never seen favicons in bookmark menus for the OS X version (Windows version, yes). Favicons do show up in the address bar but I couldn't care less about that. I've dumped profiles, prefs, all that stuff with the same result.

The bookmark menus meaning folders inside the "Bookmarks Toolbar Folder"? They work just fine on my Firefox. If you mean the Bookmarks menu in the menu bar, then of course they don't work.

Well I won't speak for hudson1, but I was referring to the 'Bookmarks' menu on the menubar. Why do you say, "of course they don't work?" Safari does them, so there's a reasonable expectation that Firefox could. We can see that they don't show up by default despite the settings, but the question is, can they work?

Yes, that's what I meant. Favicons work in the drop down bookmark menus for Safari, Camino, and Firefox for Windows. They don't seem to work for Firefox for OS X. I have no idea if they do in the Linux release.
Are they supposed to work and if yes then how?

No, the Bookmarks menu items never have had icons, and probably never will.

If they work in the Windows version of Firefox, what's the reasoning for not including this feature in the Mac version?

I have no clue. If you're really interested, maybe you should poke around bugzilla a bit. Open a new bug if you want this feature added.

Ok. When you said the feature will probably never be included it sounded like you have some inside knowledge about why that might be.
Looking at bug 46177 it looks like this had already been fixed 3 years ago, but the patch was never checked in (or even reviewed), is now no longer working and the person who wrote the patch lost interest (understandable when nothing happens with your patch).
This is a problem I often see with Mozilla.org. Stuff gets patched and then lies in Bugzilla forever.

Nope, sorry. It just didn't seem like something that was on the radar, as I'd never even thought about it or heard about it until now.
Thanks for the info.
