Sometimes when Apple mail or one of my other mail servers is slow I want to STOP the Get Mail process (while the 'in process' whirlygig is spinning).

It'd also be useful when I discover there's a huge attachment, & I'd like to wait about DLing it.

I've searched the menus (and these forums), and find no reference to "Stop" types of action. I can choose "go offline" from the Mailbox menu - but that still takes a while to disengage the process.

I hope somebody can tell me that I've just missed something obvious. Thanks.

Mail 1.3.9 OS 10.3.5

Make sure your Status bar is visible (View>Show Status Bar). When Mail is checking for new mail there will be a revolving circle thing (like on the grey, boot screen - the "whirlygig"). Click on this an a small window will appear showing which accounts are being checked. There will be red stop signs next to each, clicking on these will stop the Get Mail process for the respective account.

Thanks! That's exactly what I was needing. "Activity Viewer" they call it.

Does it seem too much to ask for "Activity Viewer" to be a menu item in the View menu? Surely I can't be the only one who didn't happen onto the Status-Bar click secret?

"Activity Viewer" is a window. You can access it from the Window menu.
