Hey guys, this is directed to anyone who has experience in Mac or PC repair.

Recently a friend of a friend had a problem with accessing their email through Mail.app. My friend referred them to me, and they are willing to pay for the service of fixing said problem. I was wondering what is the conventional method of charging for such a service and how much. Additionally, what do you do if you cannot fix the problem? ( I doubt this problem will be major, but just in case it turns out to be).

Thanks in advance.

It's consulting basically...in my area, the minimum would be $65/per working hour on the project. Or, you could charge a "Project" fee...for example, $30 no matter how long it takes or something if you want.

If you can't figure it out yourself, find and call the people who can. There is nothing wrong with not knowing the answer; however, not trying to figure out a solution by taking the next steps is wrong.

help 'em for free (we would, if they posted here)

or ask 'em for a 6-pack/pint if you must get something out of it.

If it's really a big deal, I'd track your time and charge accordingly, but if it's just a receiving email it's likely to be an easy fix.

Thanks for the help. If it's something simple I'm going to only charge a small amount (the person is of the type who feels like they have to pay someone who works, no matter how serious it is... so 'm not going to argue). But this is also going to help me and my friend who are starting our own repair service ( I don't know if you knew him, he posted here a while back, I think he went by 'X4n4x, or something similar).
