Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I'm trying to burn a disk image onto a CD-R. I go to Disk Utility, click on the image I want, hit burn, put the CD-R in, let it go. When I put the CD back in after it burns, either I don't even see the CD on my desktop or nothing is there.

Thanks.

OS version .. machine etc ..
What have you done lately ... updates, upgrades etc ..

Can you burn any kind of cd at all?
Can you play cds?

You are trying to burn a .dmg file and not the disk image? You can't burn an image.

You also have to drag and drop the file you are trying to burn onto the CD you are copying. This CD shows up on your desktop as well as in the finder. I find it easier to drag and drop while I am in the finder.

After you drop it onto the CD, it will write it onto the CD. When this is complete you need to either click on the burn icon by the CD in the finder or right click (ctrl+Click) on the CD on the desktop and then select burn.

When that is done you will have a CD with the information on it.

From Mac Help ..

Burning a disk image on a CD or DVD

You can use Disk Utility to burn a disk image on a recordable CD or DVD disc. You can use the disc as a backup copy of your information, to transfer files from one computer to another, or to restore the files on a disk.

Open Disk Utility, located in Applications/Utilities.
Drag the disk image you want to use to the Disk Utility window if the disk image doesn't appear in the list.
Select the disk image and click Burn.
Insert a CD or DVD disc into the optical drive of your computer and follow the prompts.
