Yup. Everyone of my browsers will crash EVERY time on pages that seem to have more than a few bits of javascript. This forum crashes nearly everytime, as does toyota.com, moviefone.com and edgeracing.com.

When I try to load any of these pages, they load about 80% and then the application hangs until it crashes and I get the "Would you like to submit this bug..." window.

Now if I turn Javascript off, I don't have any problems.

I first tried to zap the PRAM, no luck.
Then I tried to Archive and Install, no luck.
Next I did a full erase and reinstall, same problem.

This is on an iBook G3, 640MB of Apple RAM, running the latest 10.3.6.

I have read about problems that Safari had with poorly written Javascript, but never have I seen anything about all three of these browsers crashing left and right.

Any suggestions?

If you performed all of that troubleshooting then it sounds like you have a Ram problem and not a system or software problem especially since you have reformatted and reinstalled.
Change your ram modules if you have the resources.
I have never had a crash issue with either one of these browsers especially FF as I am using it right now to type this reply to your posting.

Well looks like a trip to the apple store for some apple care work is in order. The logic board has died 3 times already on this, and now the ram *might* be bad, I wonder if they'll give me a new one.

Thanks!

It is extremely unlikely that the issue would be this consistent if the problem were bad RAM; I would expect to see more random crashes if that were the case. The same is true of the logic board. I can't think of any part of the system which would only be called from a JavaScript engine, and yet you say that all your crashes are related to JavaScript. This is bizarre.

Your apps might have somehow been corrupted, but for all three to be corrupted in exactly the same way is just as unlikely as the RAM issue. The same is true of system corruption; Firefox and Camino share a JavaScript engine, but Safari's is different.

Are you using any APEs, or some other type of extension that would affect all three of these browsers? Do you have any special browser plugins installed? Neither is terribly likely to cause a crash, but they're the only things I can think of that could feasibly cause this kind of pattern.

I've got no browser plugins or anything. When I did the full install again I just did an "easy" install and the first thing I tested was Safari and it didn't work.

Hmm. That's really strange. The way it's behaving, one could rule out both software and hardware problems, but then what's left?

Are you sure that crashes like this are only happenning in these browsers, and only with JavaScript? Is there anything else you can do that makes other programs crash like this?

I can't seem to find anything else that these crashes share in common aside from pages with javascript.

In any event, weirdness aside, I zeroed the disk and did ANOTHER install and now it's working.

Thanks to everyone who replied.

I am having the same exact issues on an iMac at work. Any other ideas other than a clean install?

Very bizarre.
