Just recently, I reinstalled OS X 10.3 and after reinstalling Pixadex from my backup, I found that all of my icons I had stored had become folders. Did I forget something? Is there any way to get my icons back or am I out of luck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Let it go. Good lord, if you can resist posting in the Lounge, you would think you could resist temptations that came from the Lounge...

I'm not sure what you mean by "my icons", but custom icons of files are stored in the resource fork. Some backup tools (especially if they rely on command line tools) might not backup the resource fork.
But I think you need to specify more what icons you mean, how you backed them up and how you restored them for anybody to tell what might have happened to them.

Basically, the icons i'm referring to, are the custom icons that I had stored in my Pixadex app. After reinstalling the application, and moving the Pixadex files and icons out of the old "Library/ApplicationSupport" folder into the new one, they all show up as folders. I would post a pic to show what I mean but unfortunately, the insert image button doesn't seem to be working for me.

Try deleting the LaunchServices caches in ~/Library/Caches and /Library/Caches.

Are you saying the /Users/nix86/Library/Application Support/Pixadex folder
was backed up somehow, and after you "restored" it... the icons were gone?
If so, which software program did you use to backup/restore?
Pixadex keeps its icons in the resource fork of invisible icon
files, and some backup programs either don't handle custom
icons too well.

I used Lacie's Silverkeeper to back up my system. So, basically, I'm out of luck, yes? That leaves me with only a few thousand icons to find......again. Or maybe I stop being such an icon "pack rat".

I did a brief test of SilverKeeper 1.1.2 last week and noticed its icon problems:
In some places, it didn't copy the icon at all (grrr).
In some places, the icon was copied... but the custom icon flag was unset.
In the latter case, using a utility to turn on the flag brought the icon to life.
But in the first case, there's nothing anyone can do (except complain to LaCie).
Maybe run Disk Warrior or TechTool on the volume,
and see if some of those icons can be resurrected.

Well, thanks for the help. I'll try your suggestions, but I guess I'll just have to let it go and start building a new collection. But while we're I'm thinking of it, are there any suggestions for a good backup application? Silverkeeper works pretty good but I'd appreciate a tip on another good freeware/shareware app.
