http://www.iemulator.com/
I've never heard of them before. Has anyone used it?

Notice that it only includes a DOS operating system. So not quite VPC 7 alternative.

Ignore the argumentative nature of this poster. He is old and can't engage in meaningful dialog
very long. Therefore, management asks that you at least humor him. Thanks.

On the website it shows a movie using Win 2K and in the FAQ says you can install Dos through to XP.

It's a qemu front end. Qemu is free and has been available for a while now.

How many threads do we need about a qemu frontend?

Is there any need to be so rude? If you don't have anything constructive to offer then perhaps just saying nothing.

Thanks Krypton.
Here in Australia we use what is call "diplomacy".
So I can gather no-one here has actually used iEmulator, which was my original question? The other threads are merely rhetoric and offer no real insight to either iEmulator or QEMU, which was the point of me posting this in the first place.

There is no demo available - only a download upon purchase, which it seems no one is willing to risk yet even if it is only $30.
As has been vaguely explained already, iEmulator is a nice interface for an open source piece of software called QEMU, which can emulate an intel processor, and thus allow you to run Windows on OS X.
If you search for QEMU in this forum, you will find a home made GUI for QEMU that someone on this forum made, which serves the same purpose as iEmulator (and is free).

Could you post some screenshots, and or more detailed account of your thoughts please?
If you're about to purchase a copy of Windows, just bear in mind that a more recent Windows (e.g. XP) is going to run slower than an older version, say Win98.

Oh come on, what more do you want - I said it's cool!
Actually, I could post a screenshot of a dos prompt if you like - tell me how to do it.
I think it's cool because it was a snap to install and runs at least dos without any trouble - for 24 bucks! I don't really care about speed, I just want to run some fairly simple - windows only - legal software. I think that this may be the way to go.
I have win xp on some system restore disks for my mothballed sony vaio - can I somehow use the xp from those disks????

Apple-shift-3 takes a picture of the whole screen. Do some of those with iEmulator in use, and then email to robertcurtis@gmail.com . I'll host the pictures for you.
I don't know for certain but I imagine you could use those VAIO disks.

Like I said the other threads had no bearing as to the operation of the application, hence the purpose of my thread. So rather than using search Randman you should learn to read

*moving on to those contributors with something constructive to add*
Thanks Krypton for that screen shot. I'll get it and see if I can install XP or 2000. Obviously no-one has used it before and I maybe able to add to your experience with it.
I'm sure the know alls here will benefit (as no doubt they often do) from other people's friendly contributions

Keep trying - the same thing happened to me and after about the fifth or sixth download attempt, it worked. Email them - I did (before I got it to work) and I got a response from them in a few hours. Good luck.

I got QEMU and QEMUX to run it the other day, with both dos (freeDos a DOS clone) and reactos (a free lightweight NT clone)
The installer set the wrong permissions so it wouldn't run at all. I fixed that manually in the terminal (/opt/local/bin/qemu) then both QEMU and QEMUX worked.
dos ran like a slow 286 but reactos was dead dog slow - as in 3 second delay for each character input.
This is on a G3 350
VPC 4 with win 98 works at a reasonable speed on the same box.
It is a good start but a long way from VPC. They have a lot of optimizing to do.

... As for slow performance, it not only applies to the OS X version of QEMU, but also to the Windows one; today, I tried the new Mandrakelinux 10.1 Official both on QEMU 0.6.1 and Virtual PC 2004 SP1 on a Windows laptop (1.6 GHz): in QEMU, performance was too slow to be usable, in VPC it was almost native speed (also as no processor emulation is involved for an x86 OS on an x86 PC). So, QEMU is indeed very promising, but not yet at the level of VPC - as was to be expected, too.
