Why did Apple choose to base Safari on the Konqueror web engine?
I use linux as my primary desktop computer. For web browsing, Konqueror sucks. The interface is bad, and the web rendering is buggy and poor in comparison to other browsers. I find that the Gecko engine (mozilla, firefox) is much faster and does a much better job of rendering pages.
Indeed, on Mac OS X I've used firefox and Safari. Firefox renders all of the pages I've seen where Safari can't display properly.
If you are going to develop an open source product, why would Apple choose the lesser of two major open souce lines? With the increasing support for Firefox, it appears that the future for the Konqueror lines are grim.
