has anyone tried this application?

How's the memory usage and speed compared to the others? (launchbar, quicksilver, etc.)

Ok. I'll commit heresy....

Does anyone make a launchbar that mirrors Windows XP?

It's about the only thing in Mac OS X I'm finding myself unable to get used to....

I'll duck behind the desk now and wait for answers!

Not exactly. What I'd really like is the QuickLaunch Toolbar that Windows XP has to the right of the Start button, and a toolbar that displays the programs which are currently running.

In short, if I could replicate the toolbar and tray at the bottom of the Windows XP screen (and hide the Apple menu bar) I'd be dancing in the streets!

Functionally, maybe, but not practically.

For one thing, we've got two items (menu bar and dock) instead of just one.

Secondly, the dock is in the way, and if I hide it, then I have to go get it to see what's open.

I prefer the Win 95/XP style with the added quick-launch function of 98 and XP. One bar with everything on it, and a minimum of lost screen space.

Yes, I am extremely picky. It's one of the reasons I switched to Mac: I was sick of crashes and glitches, and I was told Macs were highly customizable. Well, I took the leap, and now I'm trying to make it exactly how I'd like it.

It DOES come in handy on a windows machine mainly because the 'START bar' does not house the application specific menu's like OS X does... in Windows, they are able to allow for the extra's in the start bar because each app uses a 'window menu' to house it's menu's.

If OS X didn't use the menubar for menu's then it would come in VERY handy to put 'dock like' functions in the menu bar. Imagine having 12 apps in there and opening an app with a lot of menu's, what takes precident when they overlap? Nuff Said.

it's not exactly what you're looking for I know, it's just a different approach to the dock because I don't really like it any other way...

It might be just a matter of positioning. Try pinning the dock to the upper right hand corner and shrink the icons very small so they aren't intrusive. Now everything is together.

If you're looking for something customizable, you might want to give DragThing a spin.

I just bought it a few days ago. I am amazed at the level of customization. I've emailed the developer with a few bugs and he's great about responding.

I decided to buy it today as well. So far, the only question I've sent him is how to make his menu bar behave like the Mac menu bar, in that programs do not open their windows over or behind it.

Once I get that solved, then it's on to troubleshooting Photoshop Elements!

Oh, yeah....... and I have to find a Mac equivalent for MiniTab.

DragThing kicks ass.

I, too, have found that cutting as much of the Finder out of my daily usage as possible has really helped with speed and productivity.
