You know how when you do a voice chat with someone using iChat (or any voice software) you can hear yourself in the other person's speaker, and it's incredibly annoying because there is a half second lag and so you hear what you say being repeated on the other end and makes it a bit hard to talk naturally. You end up asking the person you're talking to to get his/her headphones and plug em in.

What if Apple made a technology where iChat analyzes your voice signal and then filters out what you just said from the incoming audio signal. That way, iChat can filter out what you have just repeated from being heard on your side, and so you can speak naturally and not hear your own self be repeated.

Could this be possible? Would it consume a lot of CPU time? If I'm not being clear enough I'll explain again.

Does this happen to alot of people? I can't recall it ever happening via a Audio and/or a Video chat with somebody.

When both of you, or at least the person you are talking too, has good speakers? It happens to me all the time. Maybe it's because of my geographical location and I always get more than a 200ms lag to everyone, which translates to a 400ms delay.

I think Apple tries to do this already. I'm not sure but when doing voice chat I'm pretty sure I never hear myself over a low muffle. Perhaps the muffle is what Apple couldn't filter out?

I really don't know, just guessing.

Yes. I have the iSub/SoundSticks...and some of my AIM buddies have the Monsoon speakers or equivalent.
