So how do you formally uninstall something from a mac? That is, besides dragging the app into the trash. I mean remove all traces of it. I have a program called "spring cleaning" and it has an uninstaller in it but either it's inadequate or I don't know how to use it.
Here's my problem. I installed a pirated version of Final Cut Pro 4 and it was working fine (wonderful program by the way) until one fine day it started crashing everytime I would start it. I'd get one of those "This application has suddently quite... Do you want to submit a report?". Every goddamn time. So I tried (several times) to remove all FCP files and every time I'd try to reinstall it would say "upgrade" instead of "install". After I would do that it would still crash every time. Until today. I found a ligit copy of FCP and tried to install it (having first removed all previous FCP files), but the same thing happened. it said upgrade instead of install, and it didn't even ask for a serial #. When it would start loading you could see the old information from when I had the pirated one. Which led me to suspect that I didn't remove the pirated FCP completely. And this is where I turn for help because I don't know what to do.
would appreciate some help

Help with a pirated Apple application problem, because you now "found" another copy that was legit. No.
And yes, uninstalling is a problem with installer.app, it needs to be added IMO.

What is an IMO? And why the snobbery? Some of us don't have a thousand dollars to spend on software. Some of us are students barely getting by.

If you are a student, maybe you should look at the education prices for software. Final Cut Express is only $149.00 for students.
Just because you are poor, doesn't give you a right to steal.
If you have a legit copy, call tech support, I am sure they will be happy to help you.

I think there probably is an open source app, but god if there were I would immediately begin having acute anxiety attacks - God I wish someone had an applescript that could take over the task of installing the code of all those handsome apps, don't you ?

Oh, and don't anyone go complaining that Windows does this better. Even with an uninstaller, the system still remembers that you installed an application.
I would even submit that this is working in the planned method (both for Mac and Windows). Otherwise you would download a 30 day trial and then uninstall it after 30 days, and then just reinstall it.
That being said, I agree that any program that requires an installer should also come with an uninstaller and that far too many programs spread themselves unnecessarily across your system.
