I have Photoshop Elements 2.0, which has proven to be an amazing application for my uses. However, I can't get over iPhoto's organizational and display capabilities. Is there a good way to use both? Can I scan photos into PE, tranfer them to iPhoto, and if need be, open them up in Elements for later editing? I would really rather not have multiple copies of pics on my HD.

Thanks,
D

I think I have an answer to half of your question. In the General tab in iPhoto's prefs there is an option to launch an application when you double click a photo. Set it to elements and then when you want to edit a pic just double-click it. I haven't used this feature so I'm not sure if saving the file in elements will save a new copy or do what it seems you want and modify the copy in iPhoto's folder. As far as I know iphoto will always copy all pictures you add to its library. Hope that helps a bit.

It's quite simple, here's how I do it:

When transferring photos from my digital camera, I use iPhoto to import them. Then I delete the ones I don't like. I never changed the double clicking behavior though. But if I want to manipulate an image, I just drag & drop it from iPhoto onto the Photoshop Icon in my dock. Simply saving it in Photoshop afterwards does the trick, next time you open the image in iPhoto you'll see the new one.

Both of those ideas sound pretty good. Do you have any suggestions for organizing pics after I scan them into Photoshop Elements? Should I then import them into iPhoto and delete the originals? What about the format? All the ones from my camera are JPEGs, but the ones I scan can be in PSD or JPEG or any number of formats. I assume iPhoto can only display JPEG.

Why not scan straight into iphoto?
What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.

This is how i do it too, if shooting in Jpeg, if in RAW i open in PS and
do any adjustments then save as a PSD file on my desktop, import into iPhoto and delete originals on desktop.

I use iPhoto only as storage for my final, edited pictures. I import with Image Capture, edit with Photoshop, then archive the final versions in iPhoto.

Digging up an old thread here...

When you double-click on an image in iPhoto to edit with Elements, does this change the "copy" or the original? I always like to maintain the original, untouched photo and iPhoto does this for me if I edit the picture in iPhoto.
