According to an AOL Web Page about "IMing A Mobile Number" using AIM one can set up "Mobile AIM" Buddies. Instead of setting them up with their AOL screen name, one uses the "Add Mobile" option and simply uses their phone numbers. Is there a way to coax iChat into the same behavior?

AFAIK, this only works in the US. You just go 'new chat with person' under the File menu, and insert their phone number when it asks for their address. Subsequent messages are sent as SMS. However, I have never used this (see first sentence).

yeah you just goto caht with new person and use their phone number... something like that. The exact details on the Mac OS X Hints webpage. As Phil said, this runs over SMS.

If they actually have a mobile version of AIM on their phones (comes with SprintPCS Vision and others), you can just add their screenname and talk normally over iChat with them.

I dug up "the exact details" on Mac OS X Hints, for the record.

Thank you very much, madmacgames!
