I just found out about acqlite.. anyone know the story behind it?

How did they get Acquisition's code? Or did they just recode it, but copy the UI?

Thanks!

Dave (the author of Acquisition) used to publish the entire source code to his app (in compliance with the GPL).... but then he got insulted that some people used his GPL code and he just pulled it, thus breaking the license's term.

Acquisition is illegal.

Dave is an asshole. The irony is that at the bottom of its page, it says "Support People Not Companies."

What dave is basically doing is using LimeWire's source code and profiting from it.

I hope he gets sued pretty soon.

Wrong, he moved the core code that interfaces with the LimeWire code into a separate project, which is available according to the GPL. The actual app and its interface are private.

Indeed, he is perfectly within his rights to do what he does. The Limewire code runs in a different address space and communicates with Acquisition with a pipe or something iirc. This is the same reason that Xcode is allowed to be closed source while using gcc.
