ok at first I really thought this was an error on my part but I spoke with one of my close friends whos uses iphoto alot and it has happened to him also

basicly like the title reads, iphoto lost my pictures

I imported an entire set of pictures from a photo shoot (roughly 60 something pictures) and told iphoto and the camera to delete the orginal images from the camera (which I obiouisly don't do anymore)

all the images imported great, I quit iphoto and had to shut down or put my computer to sleep and the next time i oped iphoto the images were gone!

the same thing has just happened to my close friend

I have tried getting iphoto to import the library again (as it had missed some files or something) but no new images show up. Furthermore when i slected the iphoto library after selecting the import menu it told me that the iphoto library was not a proper source to import - go figure.

I am really irritated that the iphoto library does not contain hard copies of images (for example the itunes library stores all of the songs in the mp3 format and does not reformat all the images) and this really makes me wounder if I should keep using iphoto.

couple of questions:
1) How/Why did this happen?
2) How can I prevent this from happening again
3) Has anyone else had this happen to them?
4) Are there any great os X alternatives to iphoto?

Can't tell you why it happened, but recently I imported some photos from my camera and the photos showed up ONLY on "last import," or even the "past 12 months," but NOT in the iphoto library. It was quite strange. I did reimport them and now they're in the library proper.

So check in a few different albums -- maybe they're in a different spot.
