I need to merge a large number of MPEGs, but I can't seem to find a Mac app to do that. If any of you know of a command line tool to do this, please let me know.

I think ffmpegX can do this. You can also try MPEG2 Works.

mpgtxwrap can do this, I have used it to join MPEGs many times. I can't find the link to it anymore though.

That'll do fine. Thanks a lot!

Yes, mpgtxwrap is the best way to join short pr0n movies into a larger one. You might also consider, however, simply converting them to mp4 in ffmpegx and using QT Pro to join them afterwards. The mpeg-1 video is a pain on a mac.

I'm talking about over 200 files, so anything involving manual intermediate steps is out of the question.

Sure. One thing you'll need to know about mpgtxwrap is that you will need to add the files manually to the list, most likely. It has a tendency to re-order things. Also, if there are *any* discrepancies in things like audio bitrate, it will balk. This is why I recommended that you convert everything to something like mp4.

And that pr0n thing was a joke.

The fact remains that, at the moment, the best application for dealing with video on the mac, ffmpegx, isn't quite up to snuff with regards to joining mpegs. It'll do it, but it's not as intuitive as it could be.

What'd be great would be something that could just batch convert anything you threw at it to mp4. A droplet would be fine.

Isn't that the same as merging them with the terminal 'cat' command, meaning they wouldn't play properly in QT?

I don't know if it uses cat, but the resulting file isn't playable in QT. It works ok in mplayer, though.

Am I the only one who hates it when people make you click on their links to know that they're talking about? Can I request that people start either linking to the product's page (not versiontracker or macupdate, whose links might change incidentally, making your post utterly useless in the future) or at least use a descriptive hyperlink?

What? Nah, I didn't do it this time because I was too lazy to figure out how to type that Latin word.
