there are way better clients than Microsoft's. However none of them support WebCam, yet.

The most advanced (features wise) is Mercury (mercury.to) but it's horrible and made in Java (CPU overhead included).

There's also Proteus (proteusx.com, highly integrated with Mac OS X, and simply, beautyful -when fully customized-), Adium (adiumx.com, similar to proteus), and the last popular choice is amsn (google).

cheers

If you want video it's my understanding that you have to use iChat and have the Windows fella use AOL. That works fine I hear, of course here in Europe no one uses AOL so it's not so convenient.

I'd recommend Adium or AMSN for just the chatting parts (be sure to get hold of the MSN emoticon pack for adium if you choose to use that).

What, is AIM blocked in Turkey? You don't have to be an AOL subscriber to use AOL Instant Messenger.

I would imagine he's referring to the fact that virtually no-one in Europe uses anything other than MSN messenger. I only have an AIM account to talk to American friends. (Adium means I still only need one program though!)

It used to be ICQ that was all the rage, but then MSN got bigger here about four or five years ago and has ruled ever since.

Amorya
What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.
