Hello Everyone,
I'm a recent switcher, and I was told that Appleworks is compatible with MS Word. Well I was able to transfer all the files fine. The only problem is after I save it on my iBook and then reopen a file, the font always changes to Helvetica and for some reason the last paragraph is gone. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
EDIT: I have been saving the files as Word Windows 97, 2000, XP2002

Appleworks is only somewhat Word compatible. Make sure you have installed all the updates. The font change could have been caused by using a font on your windows machine that you don't have on the iBook, in which case, you'd just need to get that font.
Ultimately though, if you need full compatibiilty, you'll need to get Word for OS X.
That said, you have a couple of options:
(1) Try opening the document in TextEdit - it actually can read many (relatively basic) Word documents very well.
(2) If you don't have the cash to spend on Word, consider using a share-ware or freeware alternative: - OpenOffice
- NeoOfficeJ
- AbiWord (not sure this has Word import, but I suspect it does)
- Nisus Writer Express (great OS X native word processor, the import may or may not work, but you can try it free for 30 days)
I think that covers most of your options... Good luck!

Thanks
Does anyone know why it would cut off the last paragraph of the document?
I think I'll download OpenOffice until I can get the cash for Office for OSX.
Thanks

I'd go for NeoOffice/J if I were you - much easier to work out if your a recent switcher. Plus I think its nicer anyway!

You can also download the free AntiWord Service here. It allows you to open Word files from many applications, so long as they have the .doc suffix. It may retain fonts and formatting better, but I haven't really compared it to a standard AppleWorks import.
TextEdit can indeed open Word files better than AppleWorks even without AntiWord.
Mellel also can import Word files pretty cleanly, and it's on sale for $30 -- an excellent WP.

why dont you just copy and paste the paragraph into appleworks and then select all and change the font.
appleworks will open word files but sometimes there will be some changes that you then have to clean up a bit.

Here's another vote for NeoOffice/J. Especially with the latest beta, it's really shaping up to be a nice Mac application, and not just an ugly Unix port. It's also highly compatible with Office seeing how its based on the OpenOffice code.

AppleWorks simply needs to be taken out back and shot.
