This all started when I noticed that I could no longer edit, delete, or add bookmarks in safari. Everytime I went to do that, it just beachballed forever until I forced quit.

So I figured maybe there's a corrupt preferences file, so I deleted that.

Now Safari just won't open. It just bounces on the dock forever and ever and ever...

So here I am on firefox looking for some help. I tried reinstalling Safari but that did nothing. I also tried repairing permissions...nothing. The only app I have that interacts with safari is safarisorter which works fine and hasn't caused any trouble in the past. I'm not sure if this started before or after I installed 10.3.7 because I don't add bookmarks that often.

Have you tried removing safarisorter?

Did you install Adobe Reader 7.0?

Did you try launching through the applications folder?

Other suggestions

Repair Disk \

Go to Users/Your_Name/Library/Preferences and trash the files:
- com.apple.ATS.plist
- com.apple.BezelServices.plist
Restart. If this did not help, go to Users/Your_Name/Library and drag the folder Preferences to the desktop. Restart and see if this solved the problem

Turn off Duplicate Fonts
HD/Applications/Font Book

Last restort:
Archive and Install

Don't forget ... in the future ..
Before & After any System Update .... Repair permissions: Close all open files and applications. Go to Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility and double click it. Then select "Macintosh HD" in the left panel and First Aid at the top. Then click on "Repair Permissions."

It turns out it would run...it just took about 2 minutes and now it opens instantly. The bookmarks still don't work. I deleted my bookmarks thinking that maybe they were corrupt but now when I try to import my firefox ones or edit the default apple ones, safari just beachballs and needs to be force quit. I checked the apple discussion forums and people seem to be having this probelm after updating to 10.3.7
