I have gMail set up as intructed (POP), and it was working just fine. However, a couple of days ago, I started getting popups wanting my password. I enter it, and even check the box to retain the password in my keychain, but I keep on getting the message. Sometimes one right after another, sometimes a few minutes apart. And I don't think it's downloading mail, either. I have run Keychain First Aid, repaired permissions, etc., but the problem persists. I have not made any changes in preferences, so really can't see what is happening. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!
Mary

Just a shot in the dark...

Sometimes when GMAIL errors out, it prompts you for a confirmation word along with your username and password. I don't think applications and or configurations such as POP allow for this and thereby you keep getting prompted as it is trying to reaccess the account. I would say try and turn off the POP access for a while, logging in and out a few times throughout the day and try things again.

Probably not the final solution, but just something to try.

I believe I have found the answer! I had previously set my preferences to check for new mail every 5 minutes. For some reason, I decided to change that to every one minute. That's when the problem started.

Someone on another forum said "Apple Mail will many times misinterpret a failed login as a wrong password even if it's really a "logging in too many times" rejection. Gmail may restrict the number of times you can check your mail in a certain period (for example, twice an hour). Try setting the checking period longer."

When I set it back to every 5 minutes, the problem cleared up. Hope this helps someone else - sure helped me!
