I'm having a problem with itunes. One of the preferences (the one on "copy files to itunes music folder) got unchecked. Now, music seems to not be on the computer. My daughter thinks she's missing some music, which then magically reappeared. I imported my new Neil Young CD last night; afterwards, I discovered the unchecked option. Now the music seems to be in the computer, as I can find the songs on my playlist, plus they transferred to my ipod. BUT -- after discovering that box unchecked, I went looking for the actual music file. And I cannot find it. It's NOT in the itunes music folder and a search has not turned up anything.

So where the heck is the music? I can fix what happens from here on, but I'd sure like to know where the missing files are. Plus, I want to do another backup of everything.

OK, I solved my own problem. Even without that box checked, the music is indeed in there. I changed my search parameters and located the music -- it was under "compilations" in the itunes music folder. I am still wondering why a search for "ohio" failed to come up with the song "ohio," even though there were more things in the title, including "mp3."

I had the same proble with the compilations thing. Drove me nuts until I found it. One of those little annoying things I guess. It'd be nice if there was a way to stop this. I wonder if the Group Compilations While Browsing option would fix it (by unchecking it).
