I recorded some sounds with WireTap; the sounds ended while I was away, and I have an aiff file that's about 50% silence..I need to trim that off.
any clues on how I can do this? I used QT Pro, and succeeded, but ended up with a file larger than the original!

You seem a bit confused about the format, in the subject you say MP3 and in the post you say AIFF. Those are not the same thing...
Anyway, if it's an AIFF you've got a full quality file, you can edit in Quicktime Pro and export to AIFF. You can also use some other sound app like Audacity.
If it's an MP3 you can try MP3 Trimmer.

Ah, OK.
You can get the LAME QT component and export to MP3 directly from QT, or you can export the edited audio to AIFF and use any MP3 encoder you want (like iTunes).

It's actually a ton easier than that. Stick the original AIFF sound file into iTunes. Get Info on it (in iTunes), and set the end play time to the time when the sound you want ends. Then, click Advanced -> Convert Selection to MP3 (if you have the mp3 encoder selected in your iTunes encoder preferences).
iTunes will respect that end time setting and remove the part of the audio that you don't want.

yes, and what a thing of beauty that is..worked perfectly..
I thought there was some promise in that end play time, but didn't think to rip as an mp3 to "finalize" it.
thank you!
