What do you want to do? There may be a better solution on the Mac.

Handbrake will rip DVDs if that's what you want.

If I recall correctly, there was an effort to do this some years back. I don't know what became of that effort, though.

Porting over a Windows app isn't a trivial task, but this isn't to say that it cannot be done. You'd need to find some people who were interested in performing the task, however, and it would take time: probably at least a month before even the first alpha was ready, and that wouldn't be usable for very much.

In the meantime, what exactly is it that you want to do? There may be another program which can do what you want.

I believe MediaPipe overlaps some of the same fuctionality as VirtualDub does. The software was pretty powerfull, but it seems to have died in 2003 MediaPipe on sourceforge

The creators are now running Metakine (DVDremaster)

thanks for the replies, and virtual dub is like quicktime pro, but asks less questions when it comes to not so legal content like vob files.

i use and love handbrake, but i still think mac os needs a free moving converting application like virtual dub, if anyone knows anything similar please link me. or if anyone wants to port it over that would be great.

i would try to port it over my self, but i dont know anything about writing applications, if you can recommend a book that would be helpful that would also be appreciated.

thanks.

Do keep in mind that QuickTime Pro is nothing more than a souped-up QuickTime Player. The API layer is identical in both versions, and it's quite possible to do everything QTPro can do and more using other programs, most of which can be had for free. Is there truly a need for a single App That Does Everything, when smaller tools can do their job better and integrate together to do even more?

I'm not saying that VDub shouldn't be ported, if someone wants to do it. I'm just not sure I see it as a critical thing.
