Dear Transmiteer,

How are things? It's been a while since we last spoke, but we're very excited to write you with some good Transmit news!

If you happen to be attending Macworld Expo San Francisco next week (starting January 11th), and you have a spare moment, please stop by our (tiny) booth and say hello to the Panic crew.

>> Our booth is #1951. We're behind Apple -- just follow the aisle to the right of Apple's booth straight back. <<

We think it'll be worth your while. Why? Three reasons!

1) You can be among the first to see the next major version of Transmit, live and in person!

We've been really hard at work at updating and improving Transmit for the last year or so, and the fruits of our labor are about to pay off! We're excited to personally provide a hands-on look at the many major new features that will debut in our venerable FTP client. Stop by and we'll show you what's coming, before anyone else!

Now, if you're not going to the show, I'm sure you have some questions. Here are some quick answers:

- The next Transmit update will NOT be released for sale at the show -- just announced and previewed
- We won't be publicly talking about any new features until the day the software actually ships
- It's currently in late beta testing and we hope to release it sometime in the first quarter. It won't be long now!
- Anyone who buys Transmit 2, at the show or otherwise, from January 10th onward will qualify for a FREE upgrade to Transmit 3 the minute it is available! (More free upgrade details and final timeframes will be announced on its release.)

More details will be e-mailed to this very address the day of its release. Hang tight! And if you can make it to the show, please check it out and give us your feedback!
Cool - is anyone going to MWSF that could give a run-down on this? It's still my fave FTP app.

I'm curious myself as to the features. I've been using Transmit since OS 9, and haven't ever really ever fealt I needed any more features. I guess I'm just a simple lad...

But then again I'm assuming one day that ftp clients will one day be a thing of the past as the OS will have its own.

Same here... Transmit works like a charm... I don't know where they plan to go with it...

First considered Transmit some months ago, but couldn't find anything that RBrowser Lite can't do. Can anyone tell me what makes the difference?
And what about Fetch? Has anyone a recent comparison of the three? I can get Fetch for free as a student, so this could be an option, too?!

I like Cyberduck. It's similar to Transmit, but it's free.

The only thing I'd like for Transmit to have (idea already submitted to Panic) .... is to have upload speed throttling.

Most people have an asynchronous broadband connection, and the upload speed gets max'ed out VERY easily and the download speed suffers because of it.

Try uploading a large file to your web server, and then continue browsing the web, etc. etc.

unbearable because the upload speed is maxed.

I asked them if they could add a 'per-site' filter list, so that when IU'm updating my clients' websites I could automatically filter in/out folders or files that I did/didn't want to go live.

Also a per-site configuration for a lot of the general prefs would be handy (some NT servers didn't support PASV transfers

The big one, though, was for Transmit not to alert me for every file that had an access problem, and for it to log it for me to review at the end of a transfer. There is nothing worse than performing a 1000+ file transfer and walking away for 1/2 hour only to discover that the whole process has been held up by incorrect permissions on the server, or a bad file or whatever.

Panic don't seem to announce trivial updates, so I'm looking forward to this upgrade

In my opinion, the best thing about Transmit is it's interface. Hopefully that'll get an update, since it's starting to show its age.

Personally, I'm hoping for a completely revamped queueing system. The one they have right now just doesn't seem to work very well at all. Another thing is folder uploading. I could give a damn about the progress of the individual files, I want to know the progress of the folder as a whole. Aside from those and performance improvements for performance's sake, I don't need much.

I'd just be happy if they fixed all the bugs with some servers.

I bought Transmit last March and love it.

I would love to see a system for site updates. I need to upload X files every time I do a site update for X column. Why not "Updates files" quick upload list or something. Also the drawer for the queue just doesn't look good. Also update the bookmark window to make make it a sheet, or even a preference pane. the current separate window looks so odd. Also add tabs to the one window so that you can have multiple connections open, without multiple windows open.

Can't wait to see Transmit 3, will buy it the day it comes out, so that my license lasts the longest time possible

P.S. I never got the e-mail.

Will be ready with CC in hand for the upgrade cost to Transmit 3 if they fix this. Oh, and have files that don't upload successfully keep trying until they do.

I like transmit and all, but it won't work with my space on the CS server here at school, and that's how we turn in lab assignments... Fugu works fine though... if Transmit would start working with that, though, I might go back to it

Dang. I thought the keynote was Monday, not Tuesday.

Sigh... Another day to wait...

I'm actually more excited by the potential Apple surprises, but I do look forward to tinkering with some new apps as/when they're released

Oh, I also hope they offer Kerberized FTP support. That would rock, since my university uses Kerberos authentication for most logins.

But it already has SFTP!?!

Don't tell me they spent a year just on column view and rearranging the drawer!

Charging for an upgrade? Lame.

I remember when stuff like that was buy once get all updates freeware.

I guess FTP apps suddenly got so complicated it requires a payed upgrades each upgrade.

I'll reserve judgement until there's more screenshots/details. The MacMinute article is hardly in-depth reporting!

Tabbed sessions look like a great feature. I just hope they include all of the usual shortcuts (command + double click = open in a new tab, etc.)

Ah man. Sure that's all dandy. But if they haven't worked on actually ensuring that any files I set to upload *will* get there, by server reconnecting, retrying missed files, not stopping at every error, then I will be severely disappointed.

Hopefully all those things just weren't exciting enough to report on, but will still be present. I hope.

Another feature that they have in there is called DockSync™ which is basically Transmit's version of FTPeel's Magic Mirrors, where you can set up a local and remote folder and when you drag files onto the apps dock icon, it figures out where it needs to go and puts it there, instead of you having to navigate to each folder and put them there manually. It's pretty cool.

I also remember 5 cent candybars. Don't be an idiot. If the features are important enough you should pay. You expect them to develop these products on what money? If FTP is so simple then stick with the Version of transmit you have. You obviously don't need any new features. Maybe if you did something other than post 20,000 message on the forums you could afford this upgrade?

Anyone know how to import Fetch bookmarks? I've got a new machine with only Transmit on it... and an old machine with Fetch on it. What do I need to copy over?

Thanks,
