for my Materials Engineering class, i'm given this software, CES4.5, to select materials based on their properties, etc. we need it for our homework and assignments. it's suposed to be a $10,000 worth of profesional software.

i wonder if there's an equivalent out there that i can use. something that's profesionally used like this should probly list the same materials, right?

to all the Materials engineers and scientists out there, please advise. thx

If the class is graded based on the recommendations from that software, then you need to use that piece of software, and I would guess the maker has chosen not to make a Mac version (not much info on the maker's web site). You choices are:

• Use the software in the school labs
• VitualPC (I imagine that performance would be fine for this type of application)
• find another PC to use

Personally I went with the first option. It also has the benefit of a lot of people who are going to be doing the same things you are, so built in help. A lot of the times my TA's hung around the computer labs and used that as their office hours.
