Pithhelmet 2.2
Product Description:
PithHelmet blocks image, javascript, Flash ads and GIF animations. It can also collapse blocked content so that it is hidden from view. It is fully customizable for a specific site or group of sites and contains a new advanced rule editor in addition to a custom Safari Preferenences pane.
What's new in this version:
The latest release, 2.2 is the fastest version of PithHelmet ever. A few of weeks work went in to tuning the models and tracking down performance bottlenecks. It's at least 2x faster in most cases, sometimes as much as 40x on message board style sites.
Download
2-40 times faster?! This is great news!
edit: I've installed it now, and it is noticeably faster! It's almost like it isn't there.

Not free. I'll stick with Firefox + Adblock, thanks.

I have Safari 1.3 DP installed here (from WWDC). I used to be able to edit Info.plist so I can use Pithhelmet with it. (change the max. allowable safari version) But with 2.2 after dismissing the warning window the first time Safari was used, I was no longer able to make Pithhelmet load even after the modification of Info.plist.
Does Pithhelmet record some related info somewhere? Thanks!

I was a long time pithhelmet user, then uninstalled it becasue of the slow downs, and now with this version, it's VERY usable again.
Though ... AdBlock is still MUCH better and the interface and simplicity of blocking out advertisements on the fly is MUCH better.
Too bad there's not a safari port of that

I've got a bad feeling about this version:
After installing 24 hours ago I've had to restart Safari twice (beachballing).
I like to run with many pages loaded (up to 20) - which may have something to do with it - nad I find Safari normally far less likely to lock-up than this.
Anyone else finding Beachballs with the new version?

Well said. No, no beachballs. This improves Safari again. FF is good for the PC side, but I think it still has a way to go on the Mac end, especially with Safari 2.0 on the horizon.
