Hi,
I have to send my iMac (20" 1.25Ghz 768Mb RAM 10.3.7) in for service so I copied all my archived mail to a CD and transferred it to the Powerbook (12" 1Ghz 768MbRAM OS 10.3.7 -- if that is relevant)

My problem is that although I have tried to alter ownership and permissions the Mail software looks at the transferred data and seems to be functioning except that it is marked "Read Only" and when I see messages downloading they never appear in the IN folder (or anywhere else)

I can read them by going to the ISP via the browser but that is really not convenient - as I may not get the iMac back for some weeks - if anyone remembers I had a problem with it doing self-restarts- well guess what it is still doing them -aaarrggh! -so back to the service folks again

Does anyone know how I can get Mail to read and write status - it is quite amusing in one way- watching it download mail and then hide it or whatever it is doing - but I think the amusement factor wil wear thin quite quickly

thanks for reading

Ron

sudo chown -R <yourusername> ~/Library/Mail
sudo chmod -R 755 ~/Library/Mail

Where yourusername is your user short name, e.g. 'moonta' or whatever you use.

Thanks CatOne
I gave it a try and got a number of weird responses- I am hopeless at this Console business- found it amusing at one stage I got a messager eminding me to "respect the privacy of others"- nice touch Apple programmers :-)

Anyway I ended up opening a new -empty - mail and then thought of IMPORTING the messages from my archived version - sometimes the simplest things work - so I am back up to full speed except my old messages are now in an import section- no big deal I can sort and weed through them - good excuse to do some house keeping

thanks for those that read and CatOne for the suggestion- it probably does work if you are not totally illiterate in using the Console as I am -- is there a source for learning how to use it? - I really should --one day
