Yesterday my Mail.app started sorting my messages (meaning it states so in the status line and the "wheel" goes round", but after three hours it still went on, so I tried to stop it in the activity window, but, even though the task is listed there, nothing happened. Then after one more hour, I decided to quit Mail.app, but had to force quit it. I restarted, started Mail.app, it asked if it should open the account in read only (to which I replied no), and then it started sorting again. Now, many hours later, same result.
Any ideas on how to stop/kill a task in Mail.app? (besides the obvious from the activity window, which doesn't work).

TIA,
Peter
