I am getting a new Apple computer to replace my current Apple.

Is there an easy way to copy my iTunes library and iPhoto pictures to the new computer?

Also do I have to do anything special to get the new computer to recognize my current iPod?

thanks

Use the setup assistant. It will copy over your entire home directory; you'll be up and running in 30 minutes (well depending on how long it takes to copy).

The setup assistant will start up when you're setting up the machine. It will ask "do you want to migrate data from an old Mac?" and if you say yes, it will ask you to boot the old machine in firewire target disk mode and connect it. Once you've done that, it will ask you what (e.g. applications, data, etc.) you want to migrate.
