I have an internal HD of 40GB, and an external HD of 80GB. For the past year or so I've been using Disk Utility to perform backups. Using Disk Utility, I choose "restore", and set the source as the internal HD, and the destination is the external HD. This has worked extremely well for the past year and is very easy to do.
However, yesterday Disk Utility started giving me "error 2 - Restore Failure". This is the first time I've encountered this problem. My OS is 10.3 I haven't changed any software versions, nor have I installed any new software. The internal HD has about 1.2 GB of free space remaining, and the external drive (backup destination) is 80 GB and empty.
Does anyone know what "error 2" for Disk Utility means? I phoned Apple tech support and they said "Apple doesn't support backup procedures." I found it somewhat disappointing that Apple would not explain what their error messages means. Anyways...I figured I'd ask the advice of the MacNN community.
Thanks!
