I dont own a mac anymore as I couldnt do all the things I wanted to but I am hoping that maybe with the vast knowledge of the people of this board that someone out there might be able to help me out.
I have always used iTunes. Recently it just stopped working? So I uninstalled and reinstalled many times and still the thing wont work. I am running
Win XP Home Edition
Pentium(R) 4
3.20 GHZ
1.00 GB of Ram
- Trying to install the newest version of iTunes from apple.com/downloads.
I havent changed anything since the issues started or even before they started. I can get it to install and everything seems fine. Then I double click the .exe and brings up the iTunes Software License Agreement, and I click "Agree"
then a Microsoft Error box comes up saying
iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.
Please tell Microsoft about this problem.
We have created an error report that you can send to us. We will treat this report as cnfidential and anonymous.
To see what data this error report contains, click here.
The links brings a box up that says:
Error Signature
AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 4.7.1.30 ModName: itunes.exe
ModVer: 4.7.1.30 Offset: 0006aee1
And the other blah blah blah stuff that is in all errors.
Anyone have any idea how to fix this? I am thinking it is a registry issue. But I have tried a bunch of fixes that I have found from different places. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Not helpful. She doesn't have a Mac right now...
Makenzi, I agree that reinstalling QuickTime is a good idea, but there's a matter of what order you do things to consider. Windows is kind of picky this way.
First, uninstall BOTH QuickTime AND iTunes. Restart (twice if each prompts you to, but even if not prompted, do restart). Now install the latest version of QuickTime. When it finishes, restart. Now install iTunes, and then restart. (That's getting kind of repititious, but it's necessary. And when I say "restart," I mean reboot; select "Start," "Turn Off Computer," and then "Restart.")
If it's just some weird fluke, this should fix it. Good luck, and report back when (he said confidently) it's working.

It's also possible that your iTunes library is corrupt. One of my clients had this happen recently. Try backing up your music files, then delete everything in the My Documents\Music\iTunes directory (I forget what the exact names are, but they should be similar). Reinstall iTunes and add back all your music files to the library. You will lose your playlists, but at least you can get iTunes functional again.

I tried this and no luck. I have this feeling that I am going to have to do a reformat. I have no clue why this is acting this way. I appreciate the advice. I am going to try my recovery disc, if that dont work I guess Ill reformat.

I also tried your idea, but the install is brand new but I uninstalled everything and deleted everything that had anything to do with itunes on my computer. Still didnt work. I appreciate the help.

have you tried installing an older version?
first see if QT works and if so fine, if not uninstall it, uninstall itunes and try an older version like 4.7 or 4.6. an older version is better than a not working version

OMG! Thank you so very much. I finally got it to work. Any idea why the older version working and not the new one? I got 4.1 and it worked with no problem

Makenzi, I'm not really amazed that a newer version of iTunes on Windows would fail, while an older one works fine. I don't know what assumptions they had about the status of any particular Windows installation when they wrote iTunes for Windows, but there are a LOT of interdependent processes, and these processes can be based on files of numerous versions.
At least you got it working. I'm glad for that. When are you going to get another Mac?

It's possible that DirectSound (a compenent of Windows) is broken. Try updating DirectX. Failing that, reinstall Windows (good thing to do once in a while anyway)
