I log onto iChat about every day or every other day just to chat with a few people for a few minutes. Today I noticed that a cell phone I frequently send text messages to, and unsuccessfully had tried to add to the buddy list in the past, was now in the buddy list. Curiously, I added a new group to Address Book called "iChat Cells" and added a few friends' names to the group. In iChat I then added their cell phone to the buddy list using the "+1xxxxxxxxxx" screen name and then linked their buddy list listing to the address book card and sure enough everything is working! When people send me text messages I get a box that pops up that says "Joe's Cell"...Just FYI for everyone else

There was no iChat update so I would imagine this is core buddy list functionality that AOL has added to it's instant messaging back end. I don't think this was an Apple issue at all. I could be wrong.
