I installed the update to iPhoto 5 this evening, but every time I've tried to open the program since, iPhoto has crashed. I tried re-installing it a couple times and restarting my machine, but to no avail, iPhoto still crashes every time I try to open it. Has anyone out there had the same problem? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it? Thanks.

Try "rebuilding" the iPhoto database by holding down Option-Shift while launching iPhoto...

Thanks for the suggestion, but that didn't help. While it's "rebuilding" the library, it still crashes. Does anyone have any other ideas?

If you remove your iPhoto database (just move to the Desktop for testing), does it launch and work just fine?

iPhoto did start up this time after I moved the iPhoto library to the desktop. But when I moved the library with all my photos back into its proper place, iPhoto again started crashing upon startup.

Yeah, your database is seriously corrupted it seems...
Look here to see about gaining as much data back as possible in dong a "manual" rebuild of your iPhoto library!

Thanks for the link, I'm working through reading it currently before I try reimporting my library or doing anything. I decided to have Console running while trying to open iPhoto, and when iPhoto predictably crashed, Console generated the following message:
*** malloc_zone_malloc[633]: argument too large: 3691726362
Does anyone know what this means?

If I'm not mistaken, that is some sort of initial memory allocation error, or memory leak; however, beyond that, I have no idea on specifics or an easy fix.

Thanks for your help ManOfSteal, unfortunately it seems that my only option is to reimport all my photos into a new iPhoto library. But at least I was already doing much of what that link you posted advised to do, with regards to naming and editing files before importing them to iPhoto, so it won't be nearly as painful a process as it could be. Oh, and Milkman Dan says hello. He's one of my roommates and is sitting right next to me, and he wants you to keep up the good work!
